The length and severity of migraines can also be lessened with an anti-hypersensitive drug called Prinivil. There are some antidepressants that affect the serotonin levels in the brain such as Pamelor, which can prevent migraines. The frequency of migraines can be reduced with some anti-seizure drugs such as Topomax.

Individuals should do things that allow them to relax such as taking a long and nice bath, listening to music or even reading a good and interesting book. It is also helpful to sleep for six to eight hours every day and exercise regularly as well. A diary should be maintained for keeping record of the occurrence of the headaches and the medicines that most help with the pain and other symptoms.

Using passionflower, peppermint and other herbs in teas has shown to be useful in relieving migraine pain. The pain threshold of the body is increased through an ingredient called capsaicin that’s found in cayenne pepper and this can lessen the pain in migraines. The frequency and severity of migraines can also be combated with aromatherapy scents such as rosemary, eucalyptus, ginger, lavender, basil and chamomile. Nonetheless, a doctor should be consulted before the herbs are taken.
